Airmen, Soldiers: work together, learn together

A combination of patterned uniforms cut through the humid air as they climb about the frames and rotors lined up in one of the many hangars that make up the 128th Aviation Brigade. The constant drone of industrial fans fills the room while service members buzz around the floor, notebooks in hand and on their way to become masters of their airframe.

1st FW takes charge at Red Flag

The 1st Fighter Wing F-22 Raptors, air crew and support personnel from Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, arrived at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, July 10 in support of Red Flag 19-3. Red Flag is an air combat training exercise that begins July 15, 2019 and will conclude Aug. 2, 2019. The exercise is designed to train units on realistic combat-like situations with U.S. and allied forces in a controlled environment.

In 2009, President Barack Obama designated the month of June the official observance for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer or Questioning Pride Month. The observance promotes equal rights regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and recognizes contributions made by LGBTQ community members.

A visible war on invisible wounds

As the Airman speaks, the tears well up in her eyes until the weight brings them rolling down her cheeks. She can’t hold her tears back, but she won’t keep quiet; every tear is a memory and every word a liberating breath. Every sob is met with a comforting hand on the shoulder and a ‘we are with you, let it out,’ as the group surrounding her knows those feelings all too well.

Heritage Flight honors last D-Day celebration

The U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight team conducted a flyover in honor of the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the last celebration at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia, June 6, 2019. The four-ship formation included U.S. Air Force Maj. Paul “Loco” Lopez, F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team pilot, Maj. Garret “Toro” Schmitz, F-16 Viper Demonstration Team pilot, Capt. Andrew “Dojo” Olson, F-35 Lightning II Demonstration Team pilot, and Mr. Andrew McKenna, Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation P-51 Mustang pilot.

JBLE hosts medical equipment summit

The Air Combat Command Surgeon General Office hosted the Manpower and Equipment Force Packaging Summit at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, June 4, 2019. Members from various U.S. Air Force major commands attended the summit to view demonstrations and capabilities that may boost efficiency in the Expeditionary Medical Systems field. Summit attendees, including members from the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command, Air Combat Command, Pacific Air Forces and the Air Force Medical Operations Agency, examined modern medical shelter options in an effort to revitalize patient care in challenging environments.
