Air, land, sea: ROBD hypoxia training

When flying an aircraft, situational awareness is key for a pilot to have. However, breathing is also important for a pilot. To help pilots learn how their body is feeling and reacting to the lower amounts of oxygen at higher altitudes, the 1st Operations Group Aerospace and Operational Physiology team uses the Reduced Oxygen Breathing Device, which is designed to induce hypoxia symptoms.

She can’t hold her tears back, but she won’t keep quiet; every tear is a memory and every word a liberating breath. Every sob is met with a comforting hand on the shoulder and a ‘we are with you, let it out,’ as the group surrounding her knows those feelings all too well.

U.S. service members, Department of Defense civilian employees and local community leaders surrounding Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, welcomed the new 633rd Air Base Wing commander during a change of command ceremony June 20, 2019. Before assuming command, U.S. Air Force Col. Clinton Ross served as the Air Combat Command Director of Manpower, Personnel & Services.

Soldiers, Airmen participate in Joint Task Force training operations

Members from 689th Rapid Port Opening Element, 832nd Transportation Battalion, 597th Transportation Brigade and the 921st Contingency Response Squadron from Travis Air Force Base, California, participated in a training operation to prepare for Exercise Turbo Distribution. The exercise requires members of both the U.S. Air Force and Army to work together to move cargo swiftly while tracking its location accurately.

June is National Men’s Health Month and in conjunction with Men’s Health Week from June 10-16, it is important for the men of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, to be aware of the possible health problems they may face. National Men’s Health Month and week are meant to bring awareness to the preventable health problems found in men and boys and how they can affect U.S. Air Force Airmen, U.S. Army Soldiers, Department of Defense civilians, retirees and their families.

Heritage Flight honors last D-Day celebration

The U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight team conducted a flyover in honor of the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the last celebration at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia, June 6, 2019. The four-ship formation included U.S. Air Force Maj. Paul “Loco” Lopez, F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team pilot, Maj. Garret “Toro” Schmitz, F-16 Viper Demonstration Team pilot, Capt. Andrew “Dojo” Olson, F-35 Lightning II Demonstration Team pilot, and Mr. Andrew McKenna, Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation P-51 Mustang pilot.
