JBLE participates in CBRN exercise

The Fort Eustis Fire Department and the 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron Emergency Management flight participated in a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear exercise to enhance their skills to work together as a team. The exercise included donning protective gear, identifying an unknown substance, going through a denomination station and more.

Ballet Folklorico: an Airman’s culture expressed through dance

The colorful fabric drapes over her skin. Bountiful lace and ribbon ordains the dress, a timeless style reminiscent of her roots. It sways effortlessly with a simple movement of her wrist. To enhance the traditional design, she applies bold makeup to couple the dress’ vibrancy. As she retrieves a tube of vivid red lipstick from a small makeup bag, she comes face-to-face with the mirror. Her reflection creates a feeling of connectedness to her Mexican heritage.

Swimming laps around the world

She dives into the pool, as the cool water envelopes her body and she begins to feel weightless. She comes to the surface kicking and pulling, feeling the water begin to rush past her as she picks up speed until she’s at a full sprint… Preparation to be the fastest in the world has begun. “My mom threw me into a pool when I was a small child, and I’ve been swimming ever since,” said U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Genevieve Miller, 17th Intelligence Squadron deputy flight commander. “But I've been swimming competitively since I was five or six on a club team.”

JBLE celebrates diversity with Hispanic Heritage kick-off celebration

Two Hispanic Hertiage kick-off events took place here to celebrate the installation's rich diversity. Fort Eustis kicked off the first event at the Fort Eustis Club, Sept. 25, 2019. Following Fort Eustis' event, Langley Air Force Base launched its event Sept. 26, 2019 at the Langley Community Commons. Both events featured music, food, dance demonstrations and more.

The 38th Annual Mulberry Island Half Marathon/5K occured Sept. 14, 2019 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. The route started on Lee Boulevard and ran along the James River and historic sites on the installation such as the Matthew Jones.
