Langley 1 of 4 AFBs to test bio-based grease

— The 733rd Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle management flight at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, was chosen to participate in a 12-month long experimental testing of a new bio-based grease to lessen JBLE’s impact on the environment. The 441st Vehicle Support Chain Operations Squadron and the representatives from the Defense Logistics Agency briefed the vehicle management flight about the impact of the bio-based grease on the three vehicles chosen to test the grease, Jan. 31, 2017. Members of the 441st VSCOS will also partner with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, NASA and the Kennedy Space Center to test the bio-based grease in their vehicles. ...

Soldiers conduct sling-load exercise off causeway
February 21, 2017
— U.S. Army Soldiers from the 331st Transportation Company, 11th Battalion, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) from Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, conducted sling-load operations on the James River as part of a field training exercise involving land, sea and air capabilities, Feb. 15 through 16, 2017. The exercise tested the unit’s ability to move vehicles from one land area to another using a CH-47 Chinook helicopter and LCM-8, Mike-boats. The sling-load capability is often used to deliver supplies or equipment to difficult terrain or hostile environments, such as with humanitarian missions or global disasters. ...

Heart Link program empowers spouses to succeed

— After a loved one joins the military, their spouse and family members may need assistance in learning how to navigate through the unique aspects of a military lifestyle. Established in May 2001, and funded by the Air Force Aid Society, the Heart Link Spouse Orientation Program helps to empower spouses and family members by providing community services and resources to enhance mission readiness. According to Robyn Wilson, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, Airman and Family Readiness Center community readiness consultant, the program which is referred to as Air Force 101 for spouses, provides attendees with an opportunity to learn, network, become familiar with on and off-base resources and to have fun. ...

Coast Guard utilizes skills gained through joint training
February 15, 2017
— A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, transported U.S. Coast Guardsmen assigned to the Port Security Unit 305 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, to a deployed location, Feb. 8, 2017. The Coast Guardsmen accompanied security boats and essential equipment aboard the C-17 Globemaster III, while other members of the unit joined them the following week. “Overseas deployments for the Coast Guard as a whole, are minimal, especially for a reserve unit,” said U.S. Coast Guard Machinery Technician 1st Class Eric Zupan, PSU 305 crewmember. “Our port security unit and our sister unit are the only ones who do it, so it’s fairly unique to our service.” ...

EEO cuts complaint resolution time

— Federal employees and applicants for civilian employment at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, who file workplace complaints through the 633rd Air Base Wing Equal Opportunity Office, may now see the resolution process shorten from several years, to just a few months. Individuals filing complaints may elect to participate in an Equal Opportunity pilot program called the Compressed, Orderly, Rapid and Equitable Process instead of the traditional civilian EO complaint resolution process.
