Running for remembrance

The Airman continues his run, the sound of his breathing eclipsed by the insects surrounding the track. It’s two in the morning and the only light is from the lamp posts lining the track. He disappears after he passes each light until he reaches the next post. He and the four other Airmen have already been running for 17 hours, only nine more to go.

Guiding through stages of a career

From professional development training to retraining assistance, the career assistance advisors of Joint Base Langley-Eustis have a plethora of resources to help Airmen throughout their career. “Career assistance advisor is a multifaceted position and there are two roles,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Brent Likes, JBLE career assistance advisor. “The first role is we help people out with some personnel programs that might be difficult for them, like retraining or base of preference applications. The [second role] is professional development, like the first term Airmen center, NCO professional enhancement seminar and the senior NCO professional enhancement seminar.”

Senior Airman Charles Essel expresses this through the time he spends helping his community. Whether it’s volunteering at the USO, bringing meals to people through Meals on Wheels, organizing blood drives or helping at juvenile centers, Essel does his best to help people in need.
