Installation weapons policies 'strike a balance' of public safety, personal rights

Joint Base Langley-Eustis has in place and carefully follows a series of policies at Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis that allows personnel to own and store firearms while following protocols to ensure the safety of the base populace. "Our goal is to ensure the safety and security of our Airmen, Soldiers, families and civilians at Joint Base Langley-Eustis," said U.S. Army Col. Jayne Jansen, 633rd Air Base Wing vice commander. Air Force launches new program to capture innovative ideas

Airmen Powered by Innovation, or API, will replace three existing Air Force "good idea" programs - the Innovative Development through Employee Awareness, Productivity Enhancing Capital Investment, and Best Practices programs - and expand the role of Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century. API will serve as a follow-on program to institutionalize the success of the 2013 Every Dollar Counts campaign. During the campaign, 302 ideas submitted by Airmen were implemented by the Air Force, generating savings of $71 million and 24,000 hours annually. (U.S. Air Force graphic by Senior Airman Jason J. AF updates officer, enlisted voluntary force management eligibility lists

Select Airmen in specific categories who were not formerly eligible for fiscal year 2014 force management voluntary separation are now being offered voluntary separation. These individuals will not be subject to involuntary programs in fiscal 2014. Officers from 33 Air Force specialty codes by year group and enlisted Airmen from seven AFSCs by grade are now eligible to apply for voluntary force management programs, such as voluntary separation pay, limited active-duty service commitment waivers and more, Air Force Personnel Center officials said April 3. In addition, officers in 70 AFSCs by year group and enlisted members in 178 AFSCs by grade are no longer eligible to apply for voluntary programs, and they will not meet an involuntary board in FY14. The U.S. Air Force has identified 10 specific developmental special duty assignments as part of an effort to drive Airmen into positions that positively impact the Air Force. Airmen in the rank of staff sergeant, technical sergeant and master sergeant are the focus of the nomination process, which was implemented to ensure the highest quality Airmen are placed in these positions.
