Paving way to mission readiness
October 4, 2017 — An engine revs as tires roll over the silky black top steadily reaching 40, 50, 60 miles per hour, then, all of a sudden, the front tire sinks into a pothole. The chassis slams against the asphalt, the steering wheel jerks to the side as the sound of screeching tires echo—the car has lost control. If a pilot in control of a U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor were to find such a pothole as it screamed down the runway, the outcome could be catastrophic. To prevent such an incident, the 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron is tasked with the up keep of the oldest active U.S. Air Force airfield, which supports 5th generation weapons systems. ... MORE

September 13, 2017 — In order to maintain control of their air space, birds of prey need to eat to stay healthy. The same is true for Joint Base Langley-Eustis F-22 Raptors; it takes a team to maintain air dominance and JBLE’s Raptor Café aims to make it easier for the Raptor team to have a quick meal between flight line operations. “The flight kitchen keeps us from pulling our Airmen off the flight line, which keeps our planes in the air,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. William Olwig, 27th Aircraft Maintenance Unit support section chief. “Our Airmen can have a hot-nutritious meal without leaving the area, thanks to the Raptor Café; especially for the Airmen that live in the dorms and can’t bring a cooked meal from home.” ...
