Box Turtle Survey
Dani Miles of the Fort Eustis Veterinary Treatment Facility holds an eastern box turtle she found before releasing it back into the wild during the third annual Box Turtle Survey in Training Areas 1 and 2 at Fort Eustis, Va., April 23, 2013. The survey was part of the installation’s Earth Week celebration April 22-26. Box turtles play an important role in determining the health of an environment because they are an indicator species; if they are missing from an environment they are supposed to be found in, it could indicate that something is wrong. Environmental conservation is critical to maintaining healthy environments for Solders to train in. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. April Wickes/Released)
