FORT EUSTIS, Va. –
McDonald Army Health Center focuses on treatment of active duty Service members with mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI). The MCAHC mTBI Clinic works closely with the individual's primary care manager for evaluation and medical management of symptoms associated with mTBI.
The clinic assists the Service member's PCM by coordinating referrals to other military treatment facilities for speech, occupational and physical therapies for cognitive and vestibular rehabilitation. Referrals may also be provided for pain management and neuropsychological testing.
Patient education is given through one-on-one counseling and written materials. There is also community-wide education on mTBI clinic services through posters and articles.
RN Case Management and Regional Care Coordination services are available to Service members and their families to help them navigate through military, Veteran Affairs and civilian healthcare systems.
MCAHC works with Portsmouth Naval Medical Center and The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center site at Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond, Va. The VA acts as a tertiary care center which has a full range of comprehensive outpatient care and complex inpatient services for Service members with traumatic brain injuries.
