CHIEF MASTER SGT. GARY B. CARTER

Chief Master Sgt. Gary B. Carter is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 1st Fighter Wing, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va. He is responsible to the commander for the effective employment, professional development, good order and discipline of 1,600 enlisted personnel assigned to two groups and eight squadrons. The chief also coordinates with senior military leaders, professional military organizations and community partners to support the 1st FW enlisted personnel.

Chief Carter grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He entered the Air Force in 1987. Following technical training, he served as a Bomb Navigation System Technician on B-52 aircraft. In 1991, he retrained into the Weather career field. As a weather technician, he has served as a weather observer, weather forecaster, weather operations NCOIC, weather training NCOIC, standards evaluator and additional duty first sergeant. Prior to assuming his current position, Chief Carter served as the Superintendent for the 1st Weather Group at Offutt AFB, Nebraska.

Chief Carter's assignments include bases and posts in Colorado, Louisiana, Illinois, Florida, Mississippi, Washington, Virginia, Nebraska and North Carolina. The Chief has also served overseas in Republic of Korea and Germany, and has deployed on three occasions to Southwest Asia in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. He has also supported Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and ALLIED FORCE.
