Langley holds Tattoo

By Tech. Sgt. Michael Voss 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

Langley held its 19th annual military tattoo ceremony in front of a crowd of nearly 400, some in lawn-chairs with umbrellas and raincoats.

The event took the coordination of more than 17 base organizations to include the 1st Civil Engineer Squadron, 1st Logistics Readiness Squadron and the 1st Services Squadron.

Unfortunately, around 7 p.m., the concert had to be cut short due to the mostly cloudy afternoon turning for the worst.

"Rain showers started about 10 minutes after the performances started, and it became too dangerous with the electronic equipment to continue," said Mr. Jay Welsh, tattoo organizer.

This year's event featured the Fife and Drum Corps from Williamsburg, and a salute to Langley's four combat aces as well as nine prisoners of war.

"It was disappointing that the crowd did not get to the see the entire show," said 1st Lt. Toni Benson, 1st Fighter Wing Tattoo point of contact. "I had the chance to observe practice sessions; it certainly conveyed the rebluing message as well as an opportunity to say thanks to those who came before us."

"Overall, the event was a success," Mr. Welsh said.
