AFNet migration to begin August 19

By the 633rd Communications Squadron

The network migration of Langley Air Force Base, Va. to the unified Air Force Network (AFNet) is scheduled to begin August 19 and projected to be completed in two months. The goal of the migration is to combine all individual Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard networks into one.

To prepare for the migration, here is what users should look for:

· Users will be migrated in two phases - Computers in phase one; e-mail accounts in phase two.
· Computers are typically switched during the first week of the migration.
· Due to Langley's large number of customers, individual user and organizational e-mail accounts will migrate over seven blocks, typically occurring during evening and weekend hours, always following the computer migration phase.
· Users will be notified of specific dates and times with a yellow "eAdvisory" at 72 hours, and a red "eAdvisory" 24 hours prior to migration.
· Practice good information management and reduce the size of your mailbox by moving older e-mails to locally stored personal folders. Accounts exceeding size limits cannot be migrated, and are unable to send or receive messages.
· Read and keep all migration-related information and previous eAdvisories. Look for 633rd Communications Focal Point generated e-mails outlining schedule changes and specific user instructions and actions.
· Read and download a copy of the Migration User Guidelines on the Air Force Portal.
· View the Migration Orientation Videos located in the migration tool kit also on the AF Portal.

Users should also be prepared for occasional service interruptions as migrations progress, and expect to restore some features to computer desktop environment, such as Outlook preferences, SharePoint access and drive mapping.

Refer to the AFNet migration tool kit for the most current updates, information, and migration-related advisories. If you are deploying, in possession of a government furnished laptop, Blackberry, or WinMobile device, or have any computer or network related questions, please contact CFP directly.
