Eustis tax center open to serve

By Staff Sgt. Natasha Stannard 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The Fort Eustis Tax Assistance Center celebrated it's grand opening to the Joint Base Langley-Eustis community Feb. 8, 2015, at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

The center, which is located at 2733 Madison Ave. on Fort Eustis, opens annually to assist active duty Service members, their dependents and retirees in filing and preparing their tax returns.

"The goal is to make sure every customer gets the proper amount on their return, while providing the best customer service we can," said U.S. Army Sgt. Tonia Filmore, Fort Eustis Tax Center quality reviewer, adding that the volunteers are trained to provide service for intermediate tax services including a first mortgage, but not a second mortgage, health savings account or a business.

With walk-ins and scheduled appointments available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, the center aims to take away the stress of finding a local filing service.

"It's important to have a tax center here because it's close enough for the [Service members] to come in, file their claim and get back to their other duties," said Filmore. "They also don't need to pay for the resource here, it's provided and they still get them same service they would at another facility."

To make an appointment with the tax center, call 878-2343. Customers must bring the following items to their appointments:
· Last year's federal and state income tax returns
· All W-2, 1099 (DIV, T, INT R) and 1098 forms
· Social security cards and date of birth for all persons listed on return
· Military ID/government photo ID
· Child care provider's social security number or EIN plus address
· Itemized deductions (real estate and personal property, taxes paid, charitable donations, medical and dental expenses)
· Home rental income and expenses plus depreciation forms
· Stock or fund sales on 1098
· Estimated taxes paid for the filing year
· For direct deposit-voided check or savings deposit form
· IRA contributions/distributions (Roth/traditional)
· Student loan payments
· College tuition expenses
· Alimony payments and social security number of recipient
