LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
Movie nights have returned to the base theater here thanks to the 633rd Force Support Squadron.
"The name of the program is 'Best of the Big Screen,' so we will be showing movies that have recently been featured in local theaters," said James Murrell, 633rd FSS community programs director. "People may have not had a chance to see them or are interested in seeing again so we want to accommodate that."
The Army and Air Force Exchange Service stopped hosting weekly movie nights at the Langley Theater four years ago due to projected renovation costs. The 633rd FSS acquired the facility and has since used it for training, special events, talent shows and comedy nights.
The squadron decided to bring back the movie program after feedback was received from U.S. service members and their families.
"There have been requests from the military community for us to bring back the movie program," said Murrell. "We want to make sure we are offering a variety of activities for our Airmen and Soldiers and their families to enjoy."
In order to accommodate a wide range of other community program events such as pool parties, block parties and comedy shows, the theater will feature movies approximately every other Friday.
Admission is free and concessions are available at a low cost. This past Friday's movie night featured a family movie, Zootopia, followed by Deadpool for an adult audience.
"We want to make it affordable for our service members to bring their families out and enjoy time together," said Murrell. "The bottom line is service members wanted movies so we're giving them box office hit movies."
