Do you need to file a claim for nor'easter-related damage?

By Col. Todd Wold 1st Fighter Wing Judge Advocate

As of Sunday, the USAA response team and vehicle (equipped with many features to include satellite-enabled computer systems for real-time claims filing) is open for USAA members whose homes suffered damage during the recent nor'easter. The response vehicle is located in the parking lot directly behind the commissary parking lot.

The USAA response team will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Nov. 20 to assist members in reporting claims and providing assistance with claim-related questions. Additional USAA claims adjusters and appraisers are deployed to affected areas and working with USAA members to inspect and evaluate claims.

Additionally, damage incurred to personal property in base housing from the recent severe weather conditions may be reimbursable through the Air Force Claims Service Center; however, if you have suffered damage to personal property and have private insurance, contact them before filing through the AFCSC.

You may visit the Claims Service Center Web site at https://claims.jag.af.mil for information on filing a claim with the Air Force. Click on the link for "Begin New Type of Other Claim" for filing a disaster-related claim. You may also call the Claims Service Center directly at (877) 754-1212 for questions regarding the claims process or assistance with filing a claim online.

For emergency claims assistance or for additional questions or difficulties in filing a claim online, call the Langley Legal Office at 764-3277.
