Soldiers compete in AIT Showdown

By Senior Airman Delaney Gonzales 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The 733rd Mission Support Group, Force Support Division hosted the first Advanced Individual Training Showdown at Murphy Field at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, June 15, 2019.

"The purpose of the event was for Soldiers to unwind from their normal weekly tasks," said Staff Sgt. Joseph Chavira, drill sergeant for Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 222nd Aviation Regiment, 128th Aviation Brigade. "[This event] builds morale and esprit de corps throughout the battalion."

The event featured three main events; a drill and ceremony competition, a mascot competition and a bubble soccer tournament.

"We found out this was happening mid to late May, so they have been practicing for weeks, perfecting their craft and making sure everything looks crisp," Chavira said.

Six companies within the 1-222nd Avn. Rgt. competed in the AIT Showdown. Soldiers volunteered to participate in the event to represent their assigned company.

"[AIT students] showed that they care about their company-that they want their company to succeed," Chavira exclaimed.

The event served as a tool to boost morale throughout the AIT units. With the Soldiers’ replenished enthusiasm, they are prepared to fulfill the demanding training requirements to learn their future Military Occupational Specialties.
