JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
The U.S. Air Force launched the Federal Occupational Health's Employee Assistance Program on Oct. 1, 2017. The services they provide are available to all Air Force civilian personnel and their families at no cost.
EAP is a 24-hour service that provides counseling on legal issues, financial questions, work and family matters.
There is also a national crisis response team assists in management consultations for acts of violence, natural disasters, injury, or death. The team also does follow-ups with the organization and individuals if needed.
“This program is designed to help you with your concerns or issues,” said Carole Barton, 633rd Air Base Wing community support coordinator. “Experts can take the burden off you in connecting you with local professionals where help is available face-to-face.”
The counseling that is provided is one-on-one with a licensed professional who can speak and consult on their specialized fields. All support is provided on a confidential basis and can be done via telephone or face-to-face.
Other than counseling EAP also provides resources for child and elder care, identity theft, health and wellness, risk management, alcohol and substance abuse.
“This program was designed to give civilians parity [similarity] in benefits and services with military counterparts,” said Barton. “It's our version of Military One Source.”
The EAP website includes toolkits for supervisors and employees. These toolkits include information on leadership skills and management coaching, employee engagement as well as ways individuals can help improve the workplace.
