COLONEL ZANE R. JOHNSON

Col. Zane R. Johnson is the vice commander, 192D Fighter Wing, Virginia Air National Guard at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va. As one of the chief of staff of the Air Force and director of the Air National Guard's Total Force Initiatives, he supports the commander in all aspects of maintaining a combat-ready F-22A associate wing with the 1st FW and the 480th Intelligence Wing Distributed Ground Station, and the Global Logistic Support Center at JBLE, Va.

Colonel Johnson earned his commission as a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute's Air Force ROTC program in 1984. He transitioned from active duty to the New Jersey Air National Guard in 1991 and transferred to the Virginia Air National Guard in 1996. He is a command pilot with over 2,700 flying hours in the F-15, F-16 and F-22 and over 5,000 hours commercial time. Prior to assuming his current position, he served as Director of Operations, Joint Force Headquarters-Air, Virginia Air National Guard.
