Langley Fire and Emergency Services receives national re-accreditation

By Roger Williams Air Combat Command Public Affairs

Team Langley continues to lead the way for Air Combat Command as the Commission on Fire Accreditation International has recognized Langley Fire Emergency Services, part of the 633d Civil Engineer Squadron, as a fully accredited Fire Emergency Services Organization, a first for the command.

The CFAI program is a comprehensive self-assessment and evaluation model that enables fire and emergency service organizations to examine past, current, and future service performance levels and compare them to industry best practices. This process leads to improved service delivery by helping fire departments determine community risk and safety needs, evaluate department performance, and establish a method for tracking organizational improvement.

"We must take an active role in developing our future Air Force leaders by encouraging on-the-job training, professional development, continuing education, and increased involvement in professional organizations," said Langley Fire Emergency Services Fire Chief Charlie Bowen.

The CFAI Fire & Emergency Services assessment and accreditation process, nationally recognized for fire emergency services agencies worldwide, clearly supports continuous improvement and is consistent with the Air Force Fire Emergency Services Assessment Program. The process provides benchmarks to promote efficiency, sound management practices and validation of compliance/regulatory requirements by comprehensive assessment to enhance service delivery for mission support.

The Statement of Findings on the Annual Compliance Report was reviewed at the semi-annual commission in May with unanimous acceptance of the Langley Air Force Base Fire Department Annual Compliance Report.

The on-site Peer Assessment was conducted June 21-24. The assessment served as a comprehensive validation on key processes and documentation. Re-accreditation and final approval was conducted during the Fire-Rescue International and Department of Defense Fire Emergency Services Conference in Chicago Aug. 25.
