Will budget cuts impact contracted positions at the hospital?

"Ask the JBLE Commander" is a forum for the Joint Base Langley-Eustis community to ask questions, provide feedback and voice concerns about Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis directly to Col. Caroline M. Miller, the 633rd Air Base Wing commander.

Question:

Will contracted positions at the hospital be affected by budget cuts?

Col. Caroline M. Miller.

  Response:

Thank you for contacting us regarding contracted physicians at USAF Hospital Langley. Every Military Treatment Facility's (MTF) manpower roster includes contract employees. Many of these contractors are in the form of clinical staff (i.e. physicians, nurses and medical technicians). The 633rd Medical Group is one of the few MTFs in the Air Force Medical Service that is growing by way of patient care services, and with more services comes more manpower. When an organization increases in manpower, the number of contractors can also be expected to increase. Budget cuts are always a concern, but given the 633rd MDG's growth over the last several years, our budget has increased as well, allowing us to support our contracted staff. For the upcoming fiscal year, the 633rd MDG is authorized approximately 75 contracted positions for clinical staff of various degrees (physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurses, pharmacists, etc.). In addition, the 633rd MDG has approximately 25 clinical contractors hired to fill gaps created when an active duty member deploys. This number fluctuates throughout the fiscal year and is predicated upon the intensity of the facility's operations tempo when supporting overseas contingency operations. If you have any other questions concerning the 633rd MDG's manning or budget, please contact the Resource Management Flight commander, Maj. Steve Dadd at 764-8210.

Please let us know if you have additional questions, and thank you for your continued support of JBLE.
