Connecting with veterans through unique therapy
March 17, 2017 — Throughout her weekly meetings and tasks, Jamie Reed takes moments to stare at the foliage outside her office window. During those brief moments, Reed looks forward to the one day of the month when she can get her hands dirty working alongside service members and civilians to take care of garden plots at the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center’s horticultural therapy garden. Squadron revitalization leads to EPME changes
March 16, 2017 — The reenlistment and extension ineligibility requirement will be removed from the enlisted professional military education program effective March 15, 2017 according to Air Force officials. Air Force deputy chief of staff for manpower, personnel and services Lt. Gen. Gina Grosso, approved the change, removing the automatic reenlistment or extension ineligibility status for Airmen who fail to complete their enlisted professional military education distance learning course tests by their suspense dates... March 8, 2017 — National Nutrition Month is an educational campaign organized every March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which is designed to emphasize the importance of developing and maintaining healthy eating choices and physical activity habits. This year’s theme for the campaign is ‘Put Your Best Fork Forward,’ which acts as a reminder that each bite counts and how simple changes in food choices can have positive effect over time. The theme is geared toward encouraging individuals to start with small changes in eating habits, such as preparing meals at home or making healthy selections while out. ... MORE

Langley 1 of 4 AFBs to test bio-based grease
February 21, 2017 — The 733rd Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle management flight at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, was chosen to participate in a 12-month long experimental testing of a new bio-based grease to lessen JBLE’s impact on the environment. The 441st Vehicle Support Chain Operations Squadron and the representatives from the Defense Logistics Agency briefed the vehicle management flight about the impact of the bio-based grease on the three vehicles chosen to test the grease, Jan. 31, 2017. Members of the 441st VSCOS will also partner with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, NASA and the Kennedy Space Center to test the bio-based grease in their vehicles. ... MORE

Coast Guard utilizes skills gained through joint training
February 15, 2017 — A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, transported U.S. Coast Guardsmen assigned to the Port Security Unit 305 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, to a deployed location, Feb. 8, 2017. The Coast Guardsmen accompanied security boats and essential equipment aboard the C-17 Globemaster III, while other members of the unit joined them the following week. “Overseas deployments for the Coast Guard as a whole, are minimal, especially for a reserve unit,” said U.S. Coast Guard Machinery Technician 1st Class Eric Zupan, PSU 305 crewmember. “Our port security unit and our sister unit are the only ones who do it, so it’s fairly unique to our service.” ... POL: we fuel the fight
February 8, 2017 — From refueling jets and firetrucks to testing fuel samples and maintaining liquid oxygen, the 733rd Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels management flight does it all at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. The fuels management flight, also known as POL for petroleum, oils and lubricants, provides fuel support to the Air Combat Command, Fort Eustis’ Training Doctrine, six battalions, five wings and 30 organizations across JBLE. About 70 POL Airmen supply more than 9.5 million gallons of fuel approximately 60 aircraft, all government operated vehicles, generators and GOV refueling stations around base. “We are a family here at POL and we ensure that we treat the base like that too,” said U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Kevin Mendelsohn, 733rd LRS fuels management flight commander. “We give outstanding support and make sure the service we provide and the fuel they receive is of extremely high standards.” ... MORE
