Out of Power, Not Out of Action
From the left, Joe Gandarillas, 633d Civil Engineer Squadron high voltage electrician, and David Spangler, 633d CES electrical foreman, prepare to turn on a power box at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, March 12, 2025. JBLE conducted the Energy Resilience Readiness Exercise, a power outage simulation often called the ‘pull-the-plug’ exercise. The exercise is designed to test the operational capabilities after the installation is disconnected from the primary power source. Inspection teams evaluated the primary and backup energy systems to determine any gaps in performance and identify improvement opportunities. Personnel used their limited resources to ensure continued communication between squadrons were maintained and base operations continued functioning. Throughout the exercise, JBLE maintained mission readiness and power was restored after a 24-hour period. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Donnell Ramsey)
