1st FW reopens hypobaric chamber
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Kristopher Woumnm, 1st Operations Support Squadron Aerospace Physiology Flight technician, runs through his checklist to ensure the students are properly strapped into the hypobaric chamber at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, Oct. 11, 2022. The hypobaric chamber is designed to simulate the effects of high altitude on the human body in a controlled environment. The chamber went into a “mothball” status in 2014, but has been reopened as an active training device that, together with the APF, will now support a region of more than 24 states and several hundred permanent party officers and enlisted flyers from across the JBLE community.
