LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. -- Tom Maloney in 1993 in an F-15 version of Maloney's Pony. This aircraft had a distinctive painting on the aircraft's nose -- a cartoon depiction of a pony -- reminiscent of the early years when almost every aircraft was personalized with artwork on the nose. While Maloney was still in the hospital recovering from his injuries, the 1st Fighter Group commander, Col. R.S. Richards, decreed from then on tail No. 023 would forever be known as Maloney's Pony.
