Maj. John Powell is deployed from the 633d Surgical Operations Squadron to the 966th Forward Surgical Team where he serves as the team's commander. Major Powell is the only orthopedic surgeon for 5,000 coalition troops and numerous Afghan Uniformed police and local nationals in the area, treating anywhere from 70-120 traumas (bomb and gunshot wounds) and up to 50 outpatient visits monthly.
