Women Soldiers serve honorably at MAHC
U.S. Army Capt. Lynette R. Byars, center, Warrior Transition Unit executive officer, is originally from Copperas Cove, Texas. Byars was actually born at Fort Hood, Texas. Following in the footsteps of her father and several relatives who have retired from the Army, Byars enlisted into the Army in March 2002 to serve as a human resource information systems specialist at Fort Lewis, Wash. In 2006, she reclassified as a computer operator/analyst and returned to Fort Lewis where she was direct selected for Officer Candidate School. In January 2009, she was commissioned a second lieutenant. Byars began her officer career as a platoon leader for 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1 Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Hovey in the Republic of Korea. Her goals include earning a technical certification from the Signal Captain's Course, and retiring from the Army where she said she has learned invaluable lessons in the past 10 years that no other organization could offer her.
