Langley dormitories named in honor of Airmen from the past
When naming the Langley Air Force Base dormitories, considerations included individuals who displayed heroism at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty, performing highly responsible duties in an outstanding manner, or making major contributions to Air Force development or its mission. Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Thomas Barnes, the first African American to earn this enlisted rank, flew as a flight engineer on a variety of aircraft, seeing duty in Korea, the Cuban missile crisis and Vietnam.
