The history of Fort Crafford, Fort Eustis' Civil War relic
Christopher McDaid, 733rd Civil Engineer division cultural resources manager, describes the fenced in area of the old Fort Crafford house at Fort Eustis, Va., Aug. 10, 2012. Estimated to have been built between 1730 and 1750, the home was used as an inn and tavern for travelers to rest before catching the Mulberry Island ferry to cross the James River.
