NASA Landing and Impact Research Facility: To the moon and beyond
A “boiler-plate” model of the Orion capsule awaits testing at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Langley Research Center Landing and Impact Research Facility in Hampton, Va., June 18, 2013. With President George W. Bush’s announcement of the Vision for Space Exploration in 2004, NASA called on the facility to be adapted and used in support of the agency’s new Constellation Program, aimed at gaining experience in operating out of Earth's atmosphere and developing technologies needed for exploring space.
