NASA Landing and Impact Research Facility: To the moon and beyond
An astronaut uses the Lunar Lander Research Facility to practice walking in a low-gravitational setting similar to the moon in 1965, at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va. While planning the Apollo space program, the success of the program ultimately depended on whether astronauts could learn to safely land on the moon’s surface and return to orbit.
