NASA Landing and Impact Research Facility: To the moon and beyond
In one of many efforts to make the astronaut training as realistic as possible, the engineers at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va., created a “moonscape” complete with craters, using dust thought to closely resemble the material found on the moon’s surface. It was mentioned in an interview with Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, the lunar surface was “like Langley.” (NASA courtesy photo/Released)
