What's New for Dinner? Dining facility adds new items to the menu

Ever wonder what criteria the dining facility uses to determine which entrees will be served? Who decides what will be for dinner? The answer is simple...you do.

The food services personnel study the surveys and the comment sections filled out by dining facility customers, and then they rate the products ranking them in order of demand, choosing the most requested items that Langley's Airmen voted on.

"They will see that their vote counts," said Tech. Sgt. John Terry, Raptor Café dining facility manager.

Some new menu items that Langley Airmen can expect to enjoy include Sweet Baby Ray's brand barbecue sauce (for chicken), beef catalani, and Rose brand enchiladas. Airmen can expect these highly requested items to be of restaurant quality.

"We have the opportunity to choose top-of-the-line food products," said Mr. Anthony Skwirut, food services manager.

SYSCO Foods of Hampton Roads, which also serves Norfolk Naval Station, Fort Story and Fort Lee, is the prime vendor providing all food supplies.

"In terms of value and service, the dining facility provides the highest quality meals at an affordable price," said Mr. Skwirut.

Another coming change is the switch to Pepsi products from Coke products. Langley's Airmen have voted about 80 to 20 in favor of Pepsi. This will give them the opportunity to carry popular drinks such as Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Sierra Mist and fountain Gatorade. Airmen working on the flightline have requested Gatorade to better cope with hot summer conditions.

The Eagle Room Dining Facility operates on a 14-day menu cycle whereas the Raptor Café operates on a 10-day menu cycle, due to their weekend closings. Therefore, the Raptor Café maintains fewer food supplies. They are a smaller facility offering "grab-n-go" prepared boxed meals, hot and cold sandwiches and carryout hot meals.

Airmen can expect to see these new food items and the Pepsi drink products added to the menu by the end of October.
