Langley has H1N1 vaccinations

By Jimmy Ruiz 1st Medical Group

Langley's 1st Medical Group has received nearly 15 percent of requested H1N1 vaccine. Its distribution has been prioritized in accordance with CDC guidelines. High risk patients are advised to get immunized as soon as possible, and include: pregnant women, diabetics, and asthmatics, children six months to 19 years old, health care workers, first responders, deployers and those undergoing a permanent change of station overseas. Healthy active-duty members are encouraged to wait until the 1MDG has Department of Defense supplied vaccine.

These simple, everyday steps can help prevent the spread of germs and the flu:

· Cover nose and mouth with tissue when coughing or sneezing.  Throw the tissue away after use
· Wash hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
· Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth
· Avoid close contact with sick people and crowds
· If sick with flu-like illness, stay home at least 24 hours after your fever is gone. Keep away from others to prevent spreading the flu
· Be prepared by keeping a stock of over-the-counter medicines, soap, hand sanitizer, tissues and other items to avoid trips in public while sick and contagious
