LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
Front Line Warrior: Staff Sgt. David Emery
Deployed Unit: 380th Expeditionary Communications Squadron, 380th Air Expeditionary Wing, Southwest Asia
Duty Title: Communications Systems Project Manager
Home Unit: 633d Communications Squadron
Hometown: Fond du Lac, Wis.
Time in Service: Active-duty Air Force nine years
Describe your deployed duty and the tools you use to accomplish it: I am responsible for coordinating communications installations for a number of base construction and renovation projects. I've been helped immensely by project management training I received from my home units; especially Bolling and Langley.
What do you bring to the fight? Personnel with project management experience are invaluable in this environment. We serve as a point of contact for other squadrons to interact with Comm., and we coordinate the efforts of numerous agencies to provide the Wing with new Comm. capabilities critical to the base's mission.
What are you overall thoughts and opinions about your mission there? I'm glad to be here. The days are long, but the weeks are short, as they say. Some days I'm very busy; some, not so much. Overall, I feel like I have valuable mission.
Supervisor Comments: Sergeant Emery is turning out to be an enormous asset to the Squadron. Deployed as part of a plus-up of personnel, he dove right into his work. He immediately took over the responsibility of the deployed Unit Deployment Manager, tracking all personnel arriving and departing the squadron. He is the project manager for seven high profile projects worth over $1 million. He has also become involved in the base by joining the base Honor Guard. He is a welcome addition to our team!
