LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The school year has come to a end and children are slamming doors, as they rush to the front yard to play with friends, the rate in which windows are broken by mistaken proximities has risen, and sibling rivalries have doubled as they've gotten bored. How can someone ease these dilemmas and still have fun themselves?
"With concern for all," the 633d Force Support Squadron may be the ideal unit to help parents at wits end. The squadron operates four swimming pools, which include the Shellbank indoor and outdoor, Bethel Manor and the Langley Club pools.
"Our lifeguards are Star Guard certified, meaning they are trained in CPR, first aid, wilderness survival training and oxygen administration," said Christina Donnelly, 633d FSS Outdoor Recreation assistant manager. "We provide year-long swimming passes, swimming lessons, swim teams and the ability to have pool parties."
The life guards provide a safe environment inside and outside the pool. The Squadron believes in safety first and they require a little extra to make sure everyone remains safe, such as clearing the pools every 45 minutes to allow swimmers to regenerate energy.
Protective gear, such as life jackets and other flotation devices is on hand for those swimmers needing extra help.
A swim test is administered for all youth 12 years of age and younger before they are permitted to use the diving board or slide, according to Rachel Meyer, a 633 FSS Outdoor Recreation pool manager. The swim test consists of a swim across the pool and back beginning in the deep end and then treading water for 30 seconds.
