The Front Line: Tech. Sgt. Ken Walter

By Headquarters Air Combat Command Inspector General

Front Line Warrior: Tech. Sgt. Ken Walter

Deployed Unit:
Joint Special Operations Task Force

Duty Title:
Personnel Recovery Coordination Cell Director

Home Unit:
Headquarters Air Combat Command Inspector General

Hometown:
Greeley, Colo.

Time in Service:
Active duty Air Force 13 and a half years

Describe your deployed duty and the tools you use to accomplish it:
I serve as the Personnel Recovery and Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) subject matter expert and PR Coordination Cell Director. Having prior deployment experience and many additional classes and courses, I provided joint personnel with the tools needed to return with honor if isolated.

What do you bring to the fight?
Our training is like a life insurance policy: hopefully it doesn't get used. While always on hand, I was able to reiterate the importance of basic and specialized training. Furthermore, flexibility was defiantly a good skill I utilized.

What are you overall thoughts and opinions about your mission there? I was honored to have been able to contribute to Operation NEW DAWN and provide PR support to all the different forces. To be able to see your performance unfold downrange, validates the training you do stateside. I believe we have made a ton of progress in improving the overall condition in the area of responsibility.

Supervisor Comments:
"Tech. Sgt. Walter is a true Air Force professional, joint warrior, and PR/SERE subject matter expert, definitely working at a level far above his current rank. He was hand-selected for this particular deployment and provided outstanding PR and SERE support for the entire area of operations."
