The Front Line: Staff Sgt. Brye McMillon

By 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Front Line Warrior:
Staff Sgt. Brye McMillon Jr.

Deployed Unit: 386th Expeditionary Contracting Squadron

Duty Title: Contingency Contracting Officer

Home Unit: 633rd Contracting Squadron

Hometown: Waldorf, Maryland

Time in Service: Nearly 5 years

Describe your deployed duty and the tools you use to accomplish it: As a CCO I am a part of a team tasked to support the base wherever needed. We provide contracting support for everything from new equipment in the fitness center, base-wide services (DFAC employees, Septic services, Custodial, etc...), to multi-million dollar construction projects. The tools we use are the various contracting regulations and local policies that ensure we make the best business decisions for the government.

What are you overall thoughts and opinions about your mission there? The mission here is different than the mission at some of the other bases that we are sent to, but just as important. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is getting the job done without mission degradation.

Supervisor Comments: I'm Tech. Sgt. Michael Lovano, I've had the opportunity to know McMillon since he came into the Contracting career field. Since day one, McMillon has shown all of the signs of a great leader. I'm currently deployed with him and having McMillon in my flight is truly a blessing. I never have to worry about anything when it comes to his work. Not only is he knowledgeable he is constantly researching information to make sure that he is on top of the most current Contracting data. His drive is unmatched in this squadron. There have been many nights where I had to pull him away from work. Regardless of the task, he never complains and completes every task with great professionalism. I would go into battle with McMillon anytime.
