Fort Eustis, Va. –
Say hello to Sgt. Greg Ingalls, operations NCO and Army watercraft operator with 492nd Transportation Company (Harbormaster), 24th Transportation Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade, who enlisted in 2003 in his hometown of Steuben, Maine.
The chance to trek the globe, and pursue his academic goals is what motivated the 29-year old to enter the military.
"Joining the Army gave me better opportunities to travel and see the world," he said. "It also helped out with my college education."
Married to Noreen for seven years, Ingalls enjoys spending time with his wife, and twins, a son and daughter, as well as taking time to relax on the ball field.
"I play softball for a couple of teams to include playing first base for the Joint Base Langley-Eustis Hurricanes," he said.
Asked to describe what he finds rewarding about his job, Ingalls, said, "Working in the operations section provides you the chance to see every aspect of what is going on with the mission."
A short-term goal for this Army mariner is to complete his four-year degree.
"I want to finish my bachelor's degree in nursing, and become an Army Medical Corps officer," he said.
When asked if he had anything to share with readers, this hometown hero from Maine, who deployed with the brigade in early 2010 to Haiti in support of Operation Unified Response, kept it simple, "Strength and honor."
