JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq –
Front Line Warrior: Staff Sgt. Seon Hobbs
Deployed Unit: 332nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron
Duty Title: HVAC craftsman
Home Unit: 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron
Hometown: Richmond, Va.
Time in Service: Active-duty Air Force nine years
Describe your deployed duty and the tools you use to accomplish it: I support the mission by providing the facilities around base with comfort cooling. I maintain air conditioning systems for the critical communication/server rooms on Joint Base Balad. Silver Flag training helped me before deploying to Iraq. The training helped me to get familiar with the contingency equipment used in a deployed location. The most important tools that I use would definitely be my 6-in-1, voltmeter, and refrigerant gauges.
What do you bring to the fight? We keep everyone comfortable in this extremely hot climate. We keep the food that is served at the dining facility fresh by maintaining their refrigeration units. We also keep the server rooms around base from overheating.
What are your overall thoughts and opinions about your mission there? This mission is very rewarding to me because I get to be a part of history. I get to help close one of the biggest bases in Iraq. It's nice to see people packing up and going back home to their loved ones.
Supervisor Comments: "Staff Sgt. Hobbs is my go to guy for any job. It's nice to have someone in the shop that you can trust to handle business out there in the field. He has also been a great help to me when it comes to training the newer Airmen. All in all, he makes my job easier."
