JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
The Langley Club 5/6 hosted the first NCO transition course and induction ceremony at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, Sept. 7 through 9, 2016.
Following the promotion selection release on Aug. 25, 2016, 150 staff sergeant selects attended the transition course and induction ceremony.
The transition course acted as a refresher from Airman Leadership School, where Senior Airmen learn to lead and become supervisors. The course material helped guide Airmen into becoming successful supervisors that generate job satisfaction amongst their subordinates.
“We don’t want to keep repeating the same information even though it is vital information,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Dustin, 10th Intelligence Squadron section chief and transition course instructor. “We want to show them how to create a thinking work center where everybody feels empowered and involved.”
In addition to the transition course, the future NCO’s were honored with an induction ceremony.
During the induction ceremony, the guest speaker, Master Sgt. Jeffery Vogel, 1st Operations Support Squadron superintendent, advised Airmen to hold themselves accountable for their actions and the actions of their subordinates.
According to Senior Airman Timothy, 10th Intelligence Squadron cyber systems operator, who attended both events, the first ever transition course and induction ceremony hold great significance with the installation’s 100-year history.
“I think it really speaks to the heritage of the base,” said Timothy. “It’s been around for a long time and they continue to honor their people in new ways.”
Dustin hopes those who attended the events take what they learned back to their work centers.
“We want to make sure they view their Airmen as leaders and treat them as such,” said Dustin. “View them as creative and innovative people, inspire them and remind them that everything they do is a learning experience. The more they learn, the more competent they become.”
Langley Club 5/6 hopes to continue these events annually once promotion lists have been released.
