Community Center to host 'Langley's Got Talent'

By Airman Areca T. Wilson 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The Langley Community Center will be hosting an annual talent show at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 inside the Langley base theater.

"The annual 'Langley's Got Talent' is part of the Air Force's UGT program, 'U Got Talent,'" said James Murrell, Langley Community Center director. "It is designed for military members and their families to participate in a recreational activity that contributes to the development of creative expression and an appreciation of the arts."

Participants in this year's competition will be judged on technical excellence, showmanship, interpretation of material and audience reaction. Trophies will be awarded in 14 categories, including three new categories: Best Performance, for the most outstanding presentation; Most Original Act, for the most unique act; and Langley's Worst, for the funniest, silliest, and craziest performance.

"Langley's Got Talent gives performers the opportunity to show their talents to our Joint Base Langley-Eustis community," said Murrell.

Winning performers in the UGT section of the event will be submitted to the Air Force level to be judged with other base submissions. Winners at the Air Force level will receive Force Support Squadron gift cards valued up to $200.

Murrell encourages individuals to take the opportunity to express themselves artistically and also for the military community to come out and support their peers.

"We're anticipating a stellar show this year with a wide variety of very talented contestants," said Murrell. "We encourage performers to come show off their creativity and skill, and we look forward to a large audience from our military community. 'Langley's Got Talent' will be a lot of fun for everyone."

Rehearsal and registration will be held at the base theater Oct. 2 and 3. Admission and entry to this event is free. For more information, call the Community Center at 764-2983 or 764-2984 or email James Murrell at james.murrell@us.af.mil.
