LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The Langley Air Force Base Airmen Committed to Excellence council will host a holiday celebration for all Airmen E-1 to E-4 at the Static Display Hangar on Dec. 19 from noon to 4:30 p.m. to express appreciation and foster a sense of camaraderie among junior-enlisted Airmen this holiday season.
Council advisors from various noncommissioned officer and senior NCO private organizations will serve food and beverages to Airmen, as well as set-up and clean-up at the end of the event.
"Many times, military members are not able to spend time with their families over the holidays," said U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Sharon Utsey, Headquarters Air Combat Command Contingency and Readiness Branch Weather Division manager and Bayside Top 3 ACE advisor. "Gatherings like this allow Airmen to spend time with their military family in our 'home away from home.'"
The U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band rock ensemble, Full Spectrum, is scheduled to perform at the event, and music from a disc jockey will follow the band. Airmen can expect to see games, prizes and plenty of food.
"We're offering this party to the Airmen completely free of charge," said Airman 1st Class Maritzaida Acevedo, USAF Heritage of America Band vocalist and ACE president. "What better way for Airmen to get into the holiday spirit than to give while they are receiving a celebration in their honor?"
At the event, the ACE council will also hold a toy-drive for children to benefit the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk. Toys are preferred to be new, sturdy and cannot portray violence.
