AHRN becomes commercial web service

By Airman 1st Class Kimberly Nagle 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Effective Jan. 1, the online services of the Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN) is no longer sponsored by the Department of Defense.

The AHRN website, www.AHRN.com, now operates as a commercial website. Military Housing Offices no longer manage rental listings or communicate with members and property owners through AHRN. Current members and property managers are encouraged to visit the website and read the new user agreement.

In response to this change, DOD will be transitioning to a DOD-developed public website that interfaces with the Enterprise Military Housing (eMH) database, which is currently being developed. The website will allow public access for members, property managers and landlords 24/7. Property managers and landlords will have the ability to upload listings and provide Service members and their families the ability to view available listings. The website is anticipated to be up and running by July 30.

Because of the gap between the AHRN termination and the deployment of the DOD-developed public website, a short-term solution is being implemented which will involve Global Schema.

Continental United States locations, including Alaska, will use Global Schema, a program in which housing staffs will use the eMH referral component, which has no public access. Outside the CONUS, housing offices will utilize eMH or the Automated Civil Engineer System with housing staffs operating the program manually, which also has no public access.

Service members can still utilize both the Air Force and Army public housing websites, www.housing.af.mil and www.housing.army.mil, which provide a venue for members to obtain specific installation information on family, unaccompanied and privatized housing.

The Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis housing offices continue to provide referral and relocation services as well as available rental listings using a government-managed system. Members and their families should contact or visit the housing office to receive assistance in locating suitable housing and can contact Langley Housing Management office at 764-5040 or Fort Eustis Housing Services Office at 878-2977.

Property managers and landlords looking to list properties should contact David Kea at the Langley Housing Office at 764-5040, and Lamberto Dascenzo at the Fort Eustis office at 878-2977.
