Installation commander visits ACS, CDCs

By Senior Airman Teresa J.C. Aber 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

U.S. Air Force Col. John J. Allen Jr., Joint Base Langley-Eustis installation commander, met with Army Community Services, Child Development Centers and lodging staff during a visit to Fort Eustis Mar. 6.

During his visit, Allen discussed budget and other support concerns with Soldier and Family Readiness employees, visited the Pershing and Madison Child Development Centers and the General Smalls Inn.

"There are so many great people delivering vital service to Soldiers and Airmen on this joint base," said Allen. "One of the most important things that I do is get out to where they work, and hear directly from them how we're doing delivering support to our mission partners."

Allen also presented a Certificate of Service on behalf of the Secretary of the Air Force to Anita Jefferson, 733rd Force Support Division lodging custodial supervisor, who celebrated her 50th year as a government employee in September 2013. Jefferson has worked her entire career at Fort Eustis' post lodging.

"Serving 50 years is a huge accomplishment, one that no other Fort Eustis employee has experienced," said Robert Campbell, 733rd FSD lodging assistant manager. "To be recognized for that commitment by the Secretary of the Air Force and the installation commander is a big deal; we couldn't be happier for her."

Escorted on his visit by John Volkers, 733rd Force Support Division director, and Donna Fontes, Soldier and Family Services branch chief, Allen toured the facilities to gain a better understanding of the U.S. Army support services compared to Air Force programs.

"His support is invaluable to the Soldiers and families of Fort Eustis," said Volkers. "A personal visit to meet and speak with the employees who provide these services is a great way for him to show support and enhance morale. I trust he gained a more in-depth knowledge of the daily rigors and professionalism the 733rd FSD staff go through to ensure all our Soldiers, Airmen and families are treated with the dignity."
