JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
As part of a plan to end administrative walk-in services for 189 service centers, TRICARE will close their offices at Joint Base Langley-Eustis April 1.
Although the Langley and Eustis facilities will stop accepting walk-ins, beneficiaries can accomplish administrative tasks online or by phone, explained Austin Camacho, TRICARE Benefit Information and Outreach Branch chief.
"Beneficiaries can get answers and enrollment assistance by calling their regional managed care support contractor," said Camacho. "Anything they can do at a TRICARE Service Center can be done online, over the phone or the mobile app."
Eliminating TSC walk-in service, while emphasizing convenient electronic and phone options, will help control rising TRICARE costs and save an estimated $250 million over the next five years.
According to Camacho, the decision to close TSC walk-in services was not based solely on cost.
"People these days increasingly use internet, mobile and telephone options for just about every type of customer service," said Camacho. "By closing TCSs, we are trying to be more efficient and convenient for the TRICARE beneficiaries."
Camacho recommends TRICARE beneficiaries become familiar with the website, featuring a new "I want to..." section that links individuals to most of the customer service activities, like checking claims, managing prescriptions, enrolling in TRICARE or making changes to enrollments.
