The 7th Sustainment Brigade transformed to the 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) during a ceremony at Fort Eustis' 3rd Port, March 21.

As the 7th Sus. Bde., the unit provided mission command for all subordinate units of the brigade and operations for the Expeditionary Sustainment Command and Theater Sustainment Command.

Under its new designation, the 7th Trans. Bde. (Ex.) will plan and manage watercraft and water terminal support for theater operations, and commit terminal and watercraft assets in support of theater deployment and movement operations. The brigade will also maintain global oversight of all Army terminal and watercraft capabilities.

According to U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Clarence Chinn, Task Force Bragg commander and reviewing officer for the ceremony, the brigade transitioned 270 personnel and 2,587 pieces of equipment to attain the needed composition, skill sets and direction to conduct operations as the Army's only expeditionary transportation brigade since they began their transformation.

"The resolute team was given the mission to lead and provide subject matter expertise in watercraft, port opening, terminal operations and logistics over-the-shore capabilities for our Army," said Chinn. "This organization has flexed its muscles across many mission profiles."

The 7th Trans. Bde. (Ex.) is one of the most deployed brigades in the U.S. Army and has served in conflict since its activation in 1942. The unit was established during World War II, as the 7th Trans. Group (Composite), to command ports in the United Kingdom and Japan.

"With the activation of the 7th [Trans. Bde. (Ex.)], our Army has reestablished a unit possessing unique yet critical competency capabilities which directly support an expeditionary Army," said Col. John Sullivan, U.S. Army Transportation School Chief of Transportation and commandant. "I know this unit remains very proud of their past and I share their excitement with the critical role they will play for our Army going forward."
