JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
When it comes to people programs, community support and quality of life, Joint Base Langley-Eustis Force Support offers a variety of events and functions to help Service members and their families stay active throughout the year.
The fitness centers offer many activities and programs for JBLE Service members and their families.
"Our intramural sports program covers five major sports: flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball and softball," said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Eric Brown, 633rd Force Support Squadron fitness and sports section chief.
The fitness centers also host special events and competitions, including the Special Olympics, bench press and weight lifting competitions, fitness appreciation days and fun runs, Brown said.
"We also hold one big program annually called May Fitness Month," said Brown. "We incorporate different events every week of the month such as a quadrathlon challenge, "aerobathon," and invite local vendors, running specialists and a chiropractor to help our Service members learn about good health."
Brown said he is most looking forward to the squadron challenge, which gives units across JBLE an opportunity to compete against each other and have fun doing it.
"We want Service members to meet new people, make new friends and have fun in the process," said Brown. "We not only want to help and teach our members ways to get in shape and lead healthy lives, but the purpose of an event like May Fitness Month is to provide JBLE Service members a way to network with others during their tours here."
The Force Support fun doesn't end at fitness. JBLE's Information, Tickets and Travel office provides a multitude of entertainment opportunities for Service members and families.
ITT can help Service members plan trips and buy tickets at discounted prices to movie theatres, concerts and amusement parks. For sports fans, ITT offers tickets to professional football, basketball, hockey and baseball games.
"Our objective is to supply a variety of trusted, cost-effective and quality services that will benefit the overall morale of military families," said Kristin Benson, 733rd Force Support Division ITT specialist.
Benson said in addition to offering great deals at movie theaters, theme parks and discounted dining, ITT also serves as a hub for information about the base, local area and surrounding region.
For those who prefer outdoor activities like fishing and boating, JBLE Outdoor Recreation offers facilities, equipment and rentals for Service members and families to take advantage of. Bethel Park, located next to the Landings at Langley housing area, is maintained by Outdoor Recreation, and offers activities including fishing, boat rentals, paddleboats and paintball. Fort Eustis boasts well-appointed cabins beside Eustis Lake, giving guests a waterfront lodging experience without leaving Hampton Roads.
Fort Eustis' Mini-Park features a trifecta of outdoor attractions, including a go-kart track, batting cages and a mini-golf course. In addition to catering to the Fort Eustis community, the Mini-Park offers rental rates for units and organizations looking to host morale days and special events.
JBLE Force Support strives to offer a wide range of support facilities to help meet whatever need their customers have and help keep JBLE's members happy and healthy. Ultimately, Force Support's goal is to provide military families venues to release stress and keep spirits high.
"We strive to boost morale for JBLE members," said Brown. "It helps the community, the base and personnel stay physically and emotionally prepared to do the mission, whether it is at home or downrange. That's why we're here."
