Are our libraries going to close?

"Ask the JBLE Commander" is a forum for the Joint Base Langley-Eustis community to ask questions, provide feedback and voice concerns about Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis directly to Col. John J. Allen, Jr., the 633rd Air Base Wing commander.

Question: The Air Force and Army are very vocal that it values Airmen and Soldiers who seek higher education. Yet, in the last year, the library hours on Langley and Eustis have decreased dramatically. I live in the dorms and need the library to study when I'm not on duty. What is going on? Are our libraries going to close?

  Response:

We are going through a period of change in the military right now and we need strong leadership as much as ever. The fact that you're asking this question shows your commitment to your personal and professional development, and that dedication will be key as you move up the ranks. For the time being, the libraries will continue to operate at the hours I've listed below. While the hours have decreased, the library remains a great resource for Airmen, Soldiers and their families.

Bateman Library (Langley) Hours of Operation: Tues- Thurs 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Groninger Library (Eustis) Hours of Operation: Mon-Wed 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Thurs, Sat, Sun 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (closed Friday)
