FORT EUSTIS, Va. –
The 733rd Civil Engineer Division earned the Silver Governor's Environmental Excellence Award for Conservation at the annual Environment Virginia Symposium April 10.
This is the fifth consecutive year in which the 733rd CED environmental team won an award, and the award maintains their status as an Exemplary Environmental Enterprise for the fourth year in a row.
"We hope to be a leading example in the field of conservation for all organizations across Virginia," said Arba Williamson, 733rd CED pollution prevention specialist. "We won gold last year for sustainability, so we know we have to maintain a high standard."
The conservation award acknowledges the efforts of the 733rd CED concerning both natural and cultural resources. They protected more than 230 historical and cultural sites, controlled invasive species like Nutria, maintained the biodiversity on the installation, protected the Bald Eagle and upheld the strict requirements for training areas on Fort Eustis.
In addition to recognizing environmental personnel as key performers in environmental preservation, the award also gives the 733rd CED an opportunity to share their successes with other organizations since their accomplishments have made them a well-known office among the environmental community, said Williamson.
"Interacting with other protection entities allows us to spread the message of the [U.S.] Army across the state," said Williamson. "Continuously enhancing our efforts to protect and preserve the unique environment of Fort Eustis further improves [Joint Base Langley-Eustis'] already-stellar commitment to the community."
