FORT EUSTIS, Va. –
U.S. Army Capt. Christine Krueger, 128th Aviation Brigade, Advanced Individual Training D Company commander, received the Yorktown Patriot Award from the Comte De Grasse Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in a ceremony at Fort Eustis, April 24.
A true "citizen Soldier," Krueger earned the award in recognition of her distinguished service to the community and military. She has been involved in a number of community projects throughout her military career, from repairing medical clinics and school facilities in Nicaragua as a cadet, to currently coordinating annual community runs.
Krueger was commended for her involvement in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, where she worked as a helicopter pilot as well as a battle captain, running the operations of an entire battalion.
"It's an honor to be recognized," she said. "I enjoy working with and being connected to the community. [Getting involved] is a great way to achieve that connection."
The Yorktown Patriot Award, commemorating the 1781 Victory at Yorktown, is given annually to honor military women who have served in line with the NSDAR values of "God, Country and Home."
"We wanted to recognize someone who serves in every aspect," said Linda Lee, co chair of the Comte De Grasse Chapter. "Captain Krueger is that individual. We are excited to recognize her and continue to recognize women in the military for excelling in their military careers and taking the time to give back to the community."
After her current assignment, she will teach Systems Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, her alma mater.
